MediaTek’s latest 5G modem; Helio M70 supports key 5G technologies which include standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) network architectures which gives a faster connectivity and lower latency with an improved reference design to deliver a high-speed network experience for the 5G age.

The chipset was launched at China Mobile Global Partner Conference in Guangzhou. The Helio M70 is the first 5G baseband chipset which was unveiled to the domestic market after its initial launch mid-year. MediaTek’s Helio M70 is one of the industry’s first wave of 5G multi-mode integrated baseband chipsets, strengthening MediaTek’s status as a leader in the age of 5G. In line with the booming 5G market and the enhanced mobile experience brought by high-speed networks, MediaTek Helio M70 will bring new momentum to the 5G device market in 2019.

The MediaTek Helio M70 is a multimode chipset which supports 2G/3G/4G/5G. The chipset also supports 5G radio (NR), along with the standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) network architectures, the sub-6GHz frequency band, high power user equipment (HPUE), and other important 5G technologies. The chipset is designed in compliance with the 3GPP Rel-15 new specifications with 5 Gbps data rate which is leading in the industry to support carrier aggregation.

The chipset delivers an improved experience for the consumers and end users, the MediaTek Helio M70 baseband chipset also has LTE and 5G dual connectivity (EN-DC) support and also ensures that mobile phones are backward compatible with 4G/3G/2G in case there is an absence of 5G networks. Because of the multi-mode solution, the MediaTek Helio M70 simplifies the design of 5G devices with a comprehensive power management plan which will enable device makers to design mobile devices with a smaller form factor along with improved energy-efficiency and a competitive appearance.

MediaTek partnered closely with China Mobile for 5G development. MediaTek supports not just in 5G standards development and testing, rather also in building an industry ecosystem to help global operators achieve their 5G network roadmap goals in the year 2019.

MediaTek has been joining hands to build a 5G industry ecosystem. It has been active in the development of 5G technology with participation in the standardization of the full 5G feature set. MediaTek has collaborated with industry leaders such as China Mobile, Huawei, NOKIA, NTT DOCOMO and others to establish a 5G industry ecosystem. MediaTek brings new 5G network solutions to its partners and consumers to promote the sustainable development of the 5G industry with their Helio M70 baseband chipset.

With MediaTek being a member of the “5G Device Forerunner Initiative”, its 5G solutions empower industry partners to drive forward the development of 5G devices. The chipset is combined with the open architecture of the NeuroPilot AI platform. MediaTek expands beyond just mobile devices, but to other connected devices, with a diverse product line comprising of mobile phones, wireless connectivity and home entertainment. Altogether this would enable 5G technology to reach its full potential.

The MediaTek Helio M70 baseband chipset is now available and is expected to ship in the second half of the year 2019.
