MediaTek Unveils Open Resource Architecture for 5G Chipsets
While most smartphone users are concerned with the major specifications of the device that are portrayed in papers, they do not realize that the chipsets in the smartphones are capable of offering much better than they actually care for.
Talking about MediaTek, this is one of the brands that has really grown into a world-class one from literally nothing about 5 years ago. People used to refrain from using MediaTek chipsets mostly because they heated too much. However, MediaTek came over all this, and now the latest MediaTek chipsets are at par with some of the biggest brands in the world.
One of the reasons why people still do not prefer MediaTek chipsets in their smartphones is because they did not offer open-source architecture and this is why many customizable features like custom ROM etc. were absent in the MediaTek chipset. However, times have changed and so has the brand.
MediaTek recently declared that it would share the open resource architecture for all its 5G chipsets and therefore, if you buy any smartphone with MediaTek Dimensity 5G chipset, you can get benefits of all these customizable features.
The open resource architecture gives smartphone brands closer-to-metal access to customize features for cameras, displays, graphics, artificial intelligence (AI) processing units (APUs), sensors, and connectivity sub-systems. With access to these sub-systems, smartphone vendors will be able to deliver a customized experience that is tailored to their users’ lifestyles.
The major benefits of open resource architecture are as follows:
- This feature helps the smartphone users get better multimedia experiences in the smartphone, including better displays. As far as MediaTek is concerned, the brand can opt for MediaTek’s own AI Picture Quality (AI-PQ) and AI Super Resolution (AI-SR), or they can deliver their own customized experience.
- With open resource architecture, the smartphone manufacturers get better freedom to deliver more power and functions in the CPU section. Smartphones tend to be more efficient and powerful.
- With open resource architecture, smartphones can narrow the gap between their camera hardware, software, and visual processing engines to communicate their unique flair to the pictures and videos that we take.
- Open resource architecture enhanced the connectivity specs in smartphones as well.
All-in-all, open resource architecture is a win-win for the smartphone users and I think MediaTek would do much better in the market with this.
