As a smart smartphone user, it’s your foremost duty to check the specifications of a smartphone before you buy it. And you do it quite well.

Besides checking the price at various stores, you also check the inner elements and processor of the smartphone is its brain and heart which you definitely need to examine rather seriously.

If you are a budget buyer, you would already know that most of the budget smartphones come with MediaTek processors and these work quite efficiently too.

However, Snapdragon- the chipset giant known for its flagship chipsets is surely trying to penetrate the budget segment too with revive of its old, obsolete and discontinued Qualcomm 200 series.

Qualcomm has recently introduced the new Qualcomm 215 chipset which is aimed to target the low-range smartphones and thus offer you smarter products with Qualcomm processors.

However, do you think this is a good move by Qualcomm, especially when there are rarely any smartphones with Qualcomm 200 series processors? Let us find this out.

Qualcomm 215:

The Qualcomm 215 Mobile Platform features a 64-bit CPU and dual ISP support. And importantly, it boasts to raise the bar against its old chipsets by adding as many as 10 new technologies in the chipset.

Some other important properties of Qualcomm 215 are as follows:

· CPU: ARM Cortex A53,

· Number of cores: Quad-core CPU

· CPU Architecture: 64-bit

· CPU Clock Speed: Up to 1.3 GHz

· Process Technology: 28 nm

· Modem Name: Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X5 LTE modem

· LTE Peak Download Speed: 150 Mbps

· LTE Peak Upload Speed: 50 Mbps

· Cellular Technology: WCDMA (DC-HSDPA, HSUPA), TD-SCDMA, CDMA 1x, EV-DO, GSM/EDGE

· Single Camera: Up to 13 MP

· Dual Camera: Up to 8 MP

· GPU Name: Qualcomm® Adreno™ 308 GPU

· Memory Type: LPDDR3

These are some of the important properties of Qualcomm 215 mobile platform.

But do you think it’s a good move by Qualcomm? As far as my opinion is concerned, I think this could be a big blunder by the organization since:

· Qualcomm 215 is built on 28nm process technology while its nearest competition MediaTek Helio A22 is just 12nm. The big difference of 16nm could be a disadvantage for Qualcomm.

· Again the CPU clock speed of Qualcomm 215 is just 1.3GHz and that of MediaTek Helio A22 is 2GHz. Would you like buying a slower processor just because of the brand name?

· Even the top upload and download speed of the mobile platform is too less.

· While Qualcomm 215 can support a camera of max 13MP, MediaTek Helio A22 has a max camera ISP of 21MP.

And it is certainly not acceptable if you get lesser specs in the process of getting a cheap smartphone when you can get a better one at the same price.

Due to this, I think Qualcomm 215 mobile platform could be a failure and does not stand anywhere against its nearest MediaTek competitors in the market.
